ode to '08

I went to Costco today,
First time in a while.
Months, actually.
We'd canceled our membership,
But my mom had a change of heart
And decided to renew it.
I'm proud of her, I missed Costco.
Oh, so much.
It was fun, you know,
That wholesome, Costco fun.
Then I had my mom run into Dick's with me,
My goggles broke and I needed new ones.
I got some, they're blue.

I'm not ready for '09.
I hadn't really thought about it
Before a couple days ago.
I'm not ready.
This year has gone by so fast,
I don't know what it is.
Nothing spectactular happened.
It felt like a continuation of last year.
So I'm ringing in the new year at home.
I don't know if anyone's coming over,
Probably not.
I don't care.
No plans or anything.
That might be one of the reasons why
I wasn't even aware
That the year's almost done.

It snowed today.
2008 finished up with a nice snowstorm.
It was nasty out,
Blustery and cold.
I welcomed the snow though,
I love it.
This year particularly,
I've just really liked snow.
Coming home from Costco
There were all these plows and stuff.
It was great.

So even though I just can't see
How quickly the year dissappeared,
And I miss the Christmas carols on the radio
And I still keep wearing holiday-themed socks,
I guess I'm glad for 2009.
It's been a nice, short year.

Well, um, happy new year!

snow is great.

It hasn't stopped snowing
Since Friday.

I've already taken two walks in it.
One yesterday,
Another today.
It's so gorgeous,
Snow makes everything gorgeous.
Houses that looks so ordinary
Any other day
Really sparkle
When covered in snow.
It's freezing, sure,
But fun.
Simple fun,
Little kid fun.
Children like snow,
Because it's not another
Responsibility,
Not just something you
Have to shovel.
It's not a hassle.
It's new and cold,
And you can run down
The street through it,
Therefore it's great.

By just being there,
This snow has put me in the
Christmas spirit.
You know,
Prancing around, singing along
To my Sarah McLachlan
Christmas album
And happy music in general
And wearing a Santa hat
And watching my mom make
All this cookie dough
For when she feels like baking later.

I feel light and fluffy,
Like marshmallows and confetti.
I'm excited.
Four more days to go.

They cancelled school today.
Actually, it was more like last night.
Big huge snowstorm.
I wanted school today,
But after swim practice
This girl found a text message on her phone
From her friend
Who said it was cancelled.
I was bummed,
I needed books.
My mom retrieved them for me
When she went to sell concessions
At the basketball game.
I didn't want to go,
I'd rather just chill at home.
Those games are
Never what they're cracked up to be,
Either.

I woke up at 12:30 today.
I went to bed at ten thirty last night.
I must have been spent.
I haven't blogged in a while.
There just hasn't been time,
I haven't been home much.

BUT,
It's vacation.
And I'm going to blog.
I miss it.
I want to take pictures too.
A whole bunch.

I'm excited for Christmas,
I didn't really even want anything this year.
Mostly just socks.
Mine all have holes in them.
A couple CDs, socks, and headphones.
My good headphones broke.
Patrick lent me his
And they work pretty good,
But I want some good ones of my own.

I went to Stop and Shop today,
With mother and father.
It was snowing outside,
Not really bad though.
Swift but gentle,
That dusty kind of snow.

I wanted to rent a movie,
But there wasn't anything good.

Aiight well,
Peace fur now.

It snowed today.

As soon as I saw it out the window,
I pulled on my boots,
Ran outside
And watched it swirl all over the place.
My brother said it sounded like
Rice Crispies
When it bounced off the hoods of our jackets.
He was right, it did.
The snow turned to rain really fast,
But it was fun when it lasted.

I had a great vacation.
I really did.
I watched unhealthy amounts of
Grey's Anatomy,
Finished my book,
Did my math homework
And started my history project to boot.
Thanksgiving was nice, it's a nice holiday.

I feel a really busy week coming on,
Lot's of work on the play.
I'm very excited.
Should be great.

Well, I'm happy,
Plus Desperate Housewives is on tonight.
There was a referee at my sister's
Basketball game
That looked just like Dave.
I got scared just looking at him.

Heh,
I have the same taste in television as
Middle aged women.

today was great.

It just was.
Things went well.
It wasn't, like, the best day ever
Or anything.
Close, but not the best ever.
It was more of things just going well for me.

Today started out bad though,
I had to wait at my bus stop
In the rain
And retake my stupid math quiz,
And I'm not too sure that I did well on it.
But that's beside the point.

I got a 99 on my biology test.
I freaked out a bit.
And the candles from our band fundraiser
Came in,
And I smelled them all.
And I didn't do so hot on my Latin quiz,
But class ended before I got the chance to
See how I did,
So it's not all bad.
Math was aiight,
Nothing special except for Sr. Louise.
Mass was good too, we had the cute priest again.
At history we got advice from the librarian
About searching for information on the 'net.
And I studied the ppl o' Yoruba.
I learned that the Yorubans were the first
To cultivate the yam.
Yessssssss.
We clapped all through religion,
And finished that great movie in english,
And play practice was decent.

I don't have really great plans for Thanksgiving.
Football game in the morning, but the weather's
Supposed to be bad.
Some of the family is coming over for dinner,
Nothing big.
And basically not much else.
I plan on just enjoying the long weekend,
Might get some homework done,
But mostly just try getting Grey's Anatomy
To work on my computer,
Read a lot.
Go to bed early, wake up late.

I didn't think I would be,
But I'm actually kind of excited
For this break.
Heh, who knew.

leave

I raked today.
I wanted to, I find raking fun.
Something about
Moving around soggy brown leaves
Appeals to me.
I found 16 worms in various
Splotches of dirt all across the yard
And when the wind blew,
It made everything smell like
Peppercorn.

Saturday, November 15, 2008

I'm not even sure how I know
That it's raining.
I didn't look out the window to see it.

I did hear it against the roof
And I heard thunder
And something about
Floodwatches
That ended over an hour ago.

It's raining.
I don't know how I know that to be true,
But it is.

why am I as happy as a clam?

The football team
Actually won today.
No, really,
I'm serious.
I wached every moment
That dumb game.
I mean,
I PAYED ATTENTION.
No one in the band
Seemed to think it was
An unusual occurence.
Actually winning.
I completely tuned out
Those next to me
Throwing m&ms,
Yelling about throwing m&ms,
Complaining about m&ms,
Arguing about who started throwing the m&ms,
And I watched the boys
I've only ever seen in the hallway
Throw around the pigskin.
And score touchdowns.
And yes, they scored.
Doubled their original amount of
Touchdowns all season
In this one game.
They beat Commerce
44-22.
I talked to this girl in the choir,
Who was filling in for my twin in the play
Yesterday
That I basically just met yesterday,
And I chatted with her about
How perfect the score was.
She thought it was great too.
Eleven's her favorite number,
So she couldn't have been
Much more ecstatic.

Yeah, that was greatness.
's bout it.

I was almost late to Latin today,

Didn't hear the bell at lunch,
Didn't bother rushing.
I wasn't tardy though,
Just took my seat.

Mr. Monson had us correct homework,
Fill in the blank and translate.
I forgot to translate, I don't read directions so good,
Managed to get a 5 out of 35.
Eheu!
But really, I didn't care.

Mr. Monson let me collect
The green correction pens
He lends.

Then we took a pop quiz,
Jessica the sophmore had already warned us
'Bout it.
We don't usually take pop quizes,
But today we did.
I aced it, passed with flying colors,
I know my verb endings perfectly.
-o/m, -s, -t, -mus, -tis, -nt.

We proceeded to finish
Our long, made-for-tv special
On how smart the Romans were,
How they were way underestimated in their
Roman brainpower.
We learned about their lightning rods
And the Baghdad Battery,
Which Mr. Monson thought would make
A great rock band name.

After it was over,
There was a short special on
Flamenco,
Which I thought might have been Latin,
But wasn't.
A lady from Spain
Explained all about it
And clicked her heels across the dance floor
And told us that Americans are now getting out
Their feelings through flamenco
More then ever.
It was great.

But then it cut to the Pink Panther,
And Mr. Monson went to turn it off,
While we begged to watch it,
And he said,
okayjusthisoneepisode.

We watched the Pink Panther
Run around the house
With a dog chasing after him
And a dad that keeps sticking him back in
His toy chest.
All the while
That Pink Panther song
Playing in the background.

Then Mr. Monson thought he could
Just stop the video halfway through
And chat about ancient electricity,
And we groaned and reviewed,
Then told him that we had horrible childhoods,
No one ever showed us Pink Panther.
Woe is us.
Beth piped in
That we are technically learning about our heritage,
Seeing as we're panthers and all.

So we did,
Watch the show, that is.
Pink Panther got chased more,
Something with a sandwich
And we didn't finish it,
And then the bell rang again,
And I was off.

Feel like blogging?

Today
I ate lunch
Directly across
Of one of those poles
With a mirror on it?
It was so creepy,
Me staring back at me when
I'm trying to chew.
It was like eating
With sara price, joan, pinhead,
And then me,
Keeping tabs on myself.
Almost found it hard to concentrate.

Ugh,
Never doing that agin.

typical.

It's not seven o' clock yet.
My mom is making frozen pizza.
Canyoureallymakefrozenpizza?
No.
But you can warm it up
And seeing as our microwave is
BROKEN
She needs to warm 'em in the oven,
Which makes it seem like baking,
But it's not.

I wish I could play the quads.
One day I'll get it
Just not quite yet.

My drumstick snapped in half
While I was playing
At the football game last Saturday
Which should have been mortifying
But I couldn't stop laughing enough to be embarrased.
Well we finally got the new ones in yesterday
So now I've got some proper sticks.

I hope I don't have anything at all
To do this weekend,
If I do I might scream.

I feel like sleeping,
Grey's Anatomy and the Red Sox game
Are on at conflicting times tonight
And I've got a ton of homework.

& THAZ WAT'S POPPIN.

*yawns*

My hair is wet.
Not quite soaking,
But seminoticably not dry.
And my palms are sweaty
And the red permanent marker on them
Faded to hot pink
And now it's almost gone.
I have an essay to write
That I've been putting off.
I watched Grey's Anatomy tonight,
Which I thought I wouldn't enjoy
Because I've told myself for years that I
Hate hospital shows.
Guess what?
I've changed my mind.
It's superb on all accounts,
Acting, plot line, well thought out characters,
Not to mention attractive doctors,
Got it all.
Seriously.
I'm watching next week.

Hey, you know what?

Today's the first day all year
It's been truly cold.
For me at least.
I noticed it at the bus stop this morning.
Standing on the exact crack in the sidewalk
I stand on everday,
I saw that
My breath fogged up the air
And my socks weren't warm enough
And everybody passing by in their cars
Was bundled up in their coats.
Because
It was cold.

So that means
Summer is officially over.
No more sunburns,
Or taking pictures of sheds,
Or having nothing to do
Or corn on the cob.
Now its eatsleepbreathe
Soccer and homework.
Just the way things are, I guess.

All of a sudden,
The green fades from trees and grass
And we've got winter.

It was just so cold,
I was forced to write a haiku about it.

as for right now..

I forgot to do my math homework yesterday.
RST, 123.
I'm toast, who cares.

I just chatted with TMT online.
"briii babiii, it's t.t."

All the crayons in my 64 pack are broken,
Minus mauvelous.
That one's intact.

Oh, and I got a goal today.
xD

Solace...

Has got to be one of my favorite words.
It has such essence to it,
SOLACE.
Truly a beautiful word,
An ancient Sarah McLaughlan album
That I've never actually listened to.
Solace,
Comfort, relief,
A neccesity at times.
Solace,
Help, love, consolation.
It flows off the tongue, really.
Try it.
SOLACE.
Soothing in an uncomplicated form,
Like sleep.
Solace is instinctive,
It's simple.

You can't argue how great of a word it is.
C'mon, try me.

Whipped yogurt...

Has this texture
I would expect of oatmeal and cottage cheese,
But not of yogurt.
If I told you it was like whipped cream,
I'd be lyin'
Because it isn't really.

It's like suds
And seafoam,
And lumpy cake batter,
All smooshed up into
Yogurt.

It isn't pleasant,
But not half bad either.

I kind of like it.

My nails are blue and still pretty damp, but I'm typing this anyway.

Currently,
I should be reading The Giver
For book club on Thursday (Wednesday? can't remember.)
Or maybe reading The Chosen,
Seeing as I haven't started it yet,
When, truthfully,
I just want We Need to Talk About Kevin,
Because I was loving it
Before all this summer school shizz
Caught up with me.

I could do my math packet
Because I skipped those,
"How does an equation make you feel?"
And "Is math your worst enemy?"
Sort of questions,
Which just made me laugh.

I could read the Short History of Nearly Everything
And fill out that form that went with it,
But I'm just not,
I'll probably cram it all in the day before school starts,
Which I don't even want to think about.

I could even be posting those pictures of my sheds
But I still haven't sorted them out yet
And some of the roofs are crooked.

I forgot to watch Desperate Housewives yesterday.
And forgot I had forgotten.
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT.
That's what I'm officially going to do when I'm done with this.

I need to practice my drum hitting skills,
My paradittles just aren't up to par.

And don't get me started on Girl Scouts.

I called the wrong number yesterday
When I was trying to get a hold of
Mi madre.
I knew who I dialed though,
Family friends that live at the beach,
And Tom treatened to call our house now
At three in the morning
When he gets the chance.
And I only called at nine at night,
Come on.

Grrr, my pointer finger's smudged.

Thursday, July 31, 2008

HEYYY.

A follow up on my gigantic list
I blogged about a while ago?

Well,
I did swim.
A lot.
And got water up my nose.
Kinda inevitable,
When your swimming.

I got ice cream
From my favorite ice cream man,
In the form of a snow cone.
I sucked all of the tri-colored juice out of it
And threw the ice hunk
That was left over
In the sand
And ate the mushy gumball
At the bottom.

The t-shirt tan
Is pretty gone.
I got sunburn
The first day of vacation
And it just continued on
For the rest of vacation.
From red,
To painful red,
To pinkish,
To peeling.
A snake during molting season
Or an onion before it's chopped,
Take your pick.

I flew a kite,
A red, white and blue
Striped one
That looked like a diamond turned on its side
And had a tail on its right and left.
TWO TAILS = AWESOME.
It was worth it.
Again,
You gotta fly a kite yourself
To know why.
So I got my wind, too,
If you were wondering.
Thanks, Weather.

Good pictures?
I got tons.
Just you wait.

I didn't touch my math.
I read one book for school.
This I Believe.
A bunch of essays.
If you like reading essays
About how other people think
About things,
The this is the book for you.

I read all my library books,
Plus some I got at the library down there,
Plus some books my mom brought.
It had to have been like ten books.
Nerdy, much?

I passed the time
Reading, playing Mario,
And watching public television
Because there's no cable.

I haven't touched my soccer cleats.
I will, though.
Don't worry.

I GOT THE SHED.
You won't believe it.
I decided to take
Pictures of lots of sheds.
All over the neighborhood.
I'd go out on my bike
And take pictures of sheds.

The sheds at the beach
Are way better then the sheds here.
NO contest.

Friday, July 11, 2008

misc.

It's 9:55.
I just got back from book club.
I didn't read the book
Because they didn't have any
Copies at the library.
Or any in the city,
For that matter.
I kind of wish I did.
Squashed by Joan Bauer,
About a girl
Who grows gigantic pumpkins.

I'm going to the beach tomorrow.
I'm going to swim
And get ice cream
From my favorite ice cream truck
And possibly even
Get rid of my T-shirt tan.
Oh,
And I have got to fly a kite.
Seriously.
Which also means I need some good wind.
Hey, Weather,
If you're reading this,
That means you.

I wish I had some pictures for you.
I don't.
I'll be sure to get some good ones
Over vacation.

I have all this stuff
I need to do for school
In the fall that
I haven't started.
I just realized I have two
Good sized math packets
I'm supposed to complete
And two
Good sized novels
I'm supposed to read
But haven't yet.

I also got a whole bunch of books
At the library yesterday
That I hope to finish.
I found a list of books online
And Iwant to read them all.
But there's a good hundred on there
So I'm gonna have to get busy.

I also need to break in
My new soccer cleats.

I got back from camp yesterday.
It was quite an experience.
It was good to be home.
I really missed my cat
And my fish
And Patrick.
His birthday's tomorrow.
I need to make him a card.

Okay.
I'll post something when I get back.
Hopefully great pictures.
And hopefully a picture
Of the shed I found
When I was riding my bike
Last week.
I almost got it,
But the shed owners were outside
So I didn't stop.
It's the best shed,
Indisputably.
You'll just have to see it to believe it.

Kay,loveya,buy.

the first kite was invented 2800 years ago in China.

You know what?
I like kites.

I like the idea of being able to fly,
To be amongst clouds,
To be a part of something
Bigger than myself.
I like looking down on the world
And everyone staring up at me,
Them looking so small
Because I'm so tall.

I would like billowing in the wind,
My ribbon tail
Trailing along behind me
As I lead the way.
I would like watching birds
Fly past me,
Not having enough time to
Notice
The earth turn
The grass grow
The sun rise.
I would like that very much.

I watched "The Kite Runner"
The movie,
Not the book.
The movie was amazing,
But
It made me wish I had
Read the book instead,
Because books are always better than
Movies.
But its hard to put into words
The feeling of flying a kite.
Even when your kite's small,
And the stupid sea wind is
Too strong for it's
Toothpick-and-tissue-paper frame
And all your kite does
Is corkscrew
Two feet off the ground,
It's still pretty superb.
It can't beat a good kite, though,
Like the Curious George one
I brought to the beach once when
I was little.
It was plastic and felt like
A grocery bag
And was held together
By what seemed like
Sturdy drinking straws.

But it soared.
So high.
It touched the sun.
It touched the blue.
It touched the clouds.
It touched the air.
We tied it to the back of a
Beach chair
And it stayed in the sky
For the rest of the day.

I've never flown in an airplane.
I've never felt the feeling of
Being off the ground
So very high up.
I've never recieved any airplane peanuts
From friendly stewardesses
Or thought I was going to crash.
I've never been on an airplane,
I've never been in the sky.

Flying a kite is as close as I've ever gotten.

i like the grocery store more than you. i can almost guarentee it.

I went grocery shopping today.
I noticed how cute apricots look,
All lined up in rows.
They remind me of how much I like orange.
I also noticed how cute key limes are.
You buy them in a bag,
A lot in a bag
Like buying a bag of gumballs,
Except green.

I had my mom buy peaches.
The fuzzy ones, I made sure.
I put my hand up to the nozzle
They water the spinach with.
I splashed some water on the spinach
Cause I didn't want to hog it all.
That would be rude.
Then I got my mom's arm wet with my
Wet hand.

Did you know they sell
Bags of the
Cabbage,
Carrots,
Love,
That you use for
Making coleslaw?
All you've got to do is
Mix up the mayo and vinegar
And plop it in?
YESS.
Made mom get up on some of that, too.

Stopped at the deli.
My mom: "Southwest turkey breast."
Me: "Ye-haaaaw!"
Deli Lady: "Okay."
Me: "Hey, mom. You made a rhyme.
South-west...turkey-breast!"
Mom: "Heh. Guess I'm a poet and i didn't even know it!!"
Deli Lady: "Yeah. I know. You want the turkey breast. Got it."
Guess what i did today?
CONFUSE A LADY THAT SLICES MEAT.

Another woman was giving out apple pie samples,
Which i thought was weird,
Cause since when does Big y
Give out samples?
But it was super good apple pie,
And mom bought some
Cause it was free with a gold coin.
Apparently,
It's my dad's belated father's day gift.
The pie, not the coin.

My mom pointed out pink marshmallows.
She should have known I'd go nutz.
We now own them.
Strawberry-Mallows.
I'm gonna roast them, hopefully.
And i looked at ice tea,
12 for $12.
Just PERUSED,
Didn't buy any.
It's looked like some good tea, though.

Then we got hamburgers.
Well they're hamburgers.

And then we went to get some vinegar,
For coleslaw,
Which is my specialty.
And then some mayo
For coleslaw,
Which is my specialty.
And then some salad dressing,
For salad,
Which is NOT my specialty.

And when we were checking out,
I had a conversation with the guy
Bagging our groceries.
His name was Kevin,
I checked.
He saw my shirt
That I got at soccer champz
And immediately put on
As soon as i got home.
And I told him
We lost.
And he told me the other team must have been quite tough.
I agreed,
But I told him we lost in overtime.
And our team is the best.
In the world.
No doubt about it.

she had on teal pants.

Today
At school,
When we went to the church
For graduation rehearsal,
I saw an old woman
Cleaning a banister.

She had on teal pants
And she was polishing
The brass railing on the altar.
It's just there,
Toward the right side,
By the tabernacle,
Not serving much purpose,
And she was giving it a good rub down.

She was there for a long time,
Making the brass gleam
Like the sun against a new car.
She was so determined,
Her duty to her parish,
Shining the rail.
Squirt with some Windex,
Run a rag over the surface
While a bunch of teenagers
Line up in the aisles
And anxiously wait for the
Second they're let out of this place.
But she takes her time
Because this is
Her responsibiliy,
And she's doing it
As best as she can.

An hour or so later,
I sit on the pavement
Of the school's parking lot
With the other kids who were let
Outside
Because that school is so hot
Inside
And there's nothing better to do.
And an old lady is cleaning the glass
On her front door.
Same lady,
Scouring the glass
So when the light hits it,
You notice it's been washed.
She probably walked across the street
To her church,
To wash
And decided to fix up her home
While she was at it.
Or maybe Monday is her washing day,
And i just haven't
Noticed her before.
Or she's washing to keep her mind off something.
Or she washes when she's happy.
Or she washes when she's upset.
I'm not sure,
I don't know her.

Today,
I saw an old woman
Cleaning a banister.

MEEE-YOWW

Once,
My sister and my dad were out shopping at the mall
And they saw that some bookstore was going out of business
And they bought me
"Cats For Dummies",
Which probably had something to do
With how much of a dummy I am,
But I'll make believe they weren't
Insulting my intelligence.

The cover has this brown cat on it
That's lying on it's back,
Staring at you
Upside down.
I still can't tell whether it's
A polite gaze
Or
A threatening glare.
Apparently,
This 380 page collaboration
Of cat care tips
Was written by some
Award-winning cat experts,
But my dad thought I'd
Enjoy the pictures.

Ginger's a dork of a cat,
Weird in a way no
Extremely long book can describe.
No explanation why
He only likes drinking water outdoors.
Not inside like normal cats,
He wants him some puddles.
Once he got his head
Stuck in a watering can,
Trying to lap up the little bit of
Water at the bottom.
My dad rescued him.
I didn't actually witness this
Particular event.
But I believe it.

He also comes whenever I click my tongue
To the roof of my mouth.
*click click*
He saunters over to me.
Wherever he may be,
He acknowledges my click.
In the neighbors lawn,
In the kichen,
Sleeping in a pile of dirty clothes,
Any place at all.
Obviously he thinks he's either
Gonna get food or loving out of
The deal,
But I'm aiight with dat.
Faithful for food,
Schmaithful for food,
Still devoted.

But I suppose I've gotten
Something out of that book.
From reading it cover to cover countless times,
I know a cat's facial expression when he's
"Tentative"
And how to stop your precious Snook 'ems
From "counter cruising."
That's gotta count for something.

an old man is snoring.

Cold.
Hiding under christina ransom's
Jacket
Watching pitch after pitch
And swings
Hits
Runs
Scores
And its ended
Because of this rain.
Swat hands with opponents,
Gather my wilted glove,
And my bag,
Visor,
Water
And run.

Through the rain,
Past joan and her mom,
Bade them goodbye.
Keep running.
The sky has opened up,
Emitting a downpour
Just for us,
Just for me.
So cold,
But I keep running.

The droplets feel like sweat,
Like tears,
Like rain,
Drip down my face
Off my nose.
Whip off the glasses
Cause i can't see.
My visor's turned from purple to navy
Cause it's soaked.
But I keep running
Cause i'm freezing.

I finally reach the parking lot
And look for our car
And i can't see
Cause of the rain
And almost open up the door to another
Car
But don't.
And i find it eventually
And stand at the door
And wait for my dad to come
Open it.
I crawl inside
And father cranks up the heat
And we drive off
And "can you feel the love tonight?" is
On the radio.
Leave it to Sir Elton John
To complete the moment.

gotta love the mall

Today
I went to american eagle
For the first time in my life.
I was told
That they had sweaters
And i needed one to go with my dress.
We went in there,
Looked around,
Found some sweaters
On the clearance rack
That were just what i was looking for.
I picked one out
That was navy blue
For 19.99.
There was another one
Exactly like it
But
White
That was 13.95.
My mom brought them to the register
And showed them that
She wanted the blue one
But for the white one's price,
Figuring there was some mistake.
Both of the cashiers
Sighed
And told us that american eagle
Bases its discounts on
The
Color
Of
The
Sweater.
So apparently
NAVY BLUE > WHITE.

i see you.

At the eye doctor's office
I saw two girls named star and stormy
And remembered that my mom almost named me stormy
Because i was born in a blizzard.

When we got there,
We sat down.
I didn't bring any books to read,
No paper to write on
Or to draw on
Or make origami with
Or whatevz.
The wait was kind of long.
I read about the 100 most influential people
In the world
In TIME magazine
And saw that ol' Miley Cyrus made the list.
Ironically,
There also was an article in there
About her Vanity Fair scandal.

They called us in after a while
My mom commented on how long it took
To the nurse
And chatted about all of their old
Mutual eye doctor friends.
Though i don't think my mom knew her.
I liked her a lot.
She noticed how i squinted into the lenses
And how I almost cracked up
About at trillion times
Thinking how ridiulous i sounded
Stuttering on consonants and vowels.
She even gave me hints on a couple letters.
I kept mixing up the O's and C's.
I probably failed that test,
But seeing as i already have glasses,
It doesn't get much worse.

So i really liked her.
She had blonde hair
And she coordinated her outfit perfectly.
Bright orange shirt with those white hibiscus
Hawaiian flowers on it,
White pants,
And orange Crocs.
She was also using an orange pen,
That,
She pointed out,
Said "yellow" on it.
After some construction company, she says.

The doc came in
Dressed like a doc
Lab coat and all.
My mom also chatted with him
About that old eye doctor
They know.
That everyone knows.
The doctor's great too.
He can carry a conversation
About my summer plans
And ask me to look this way and that
And tell me i'm doing everything correctly
Simultaneously.
I got a stronger prescription,
Not sure how much stronger.
2.75, you tell me.

We talked to the ladies at the desk
About golfing
And I saw that the lady
At the computer
Was drinking a coke zero
In an itty bitty bottle.

I bought new glasses.
Brown, that reflect blue in the light.
I really like 'em.
But I really didn't like my old glasses,
So anything would be an improvement.
A lady in the store
Had half her hair dyed brown
And half her hair dyed blonde,
Split right down the middle.
I wonder which glasses she was buying.

Another thing i noticed,
Everyone there
Doctors, nurses, everybody working at the desk, the people at the store,
ALL OF THEM
Wore specs.
Which is weird and not weird at the same time.

blue bird, blue bird, through my window

I'm tired of the radio.
I'm fed up with hearing how
$hAw+y g0+ d3m @ppL3 b0++0M j3An$
And people telling me that my face is bubbily
And saying "hey there" to delilah all the time.

I woke up really early this morning.
Tired, groggy, you name it.
And being me,
I was having a hard time falling back to sleep.
And between figuring out what in the world
I'm going to do my informative speech on
For english class,
I hear birds
And those other almost-morning animals
Belting out a song of their own.
When i finally decide on "how to build
THE MOST PERFECT SNOWMAN"
I roll out of bed and creep up to my window.
My sister stirs when the mattress groans
And the old springs give me away.
But she keeps sleeping.

So
I peer out the window.
And for some reason,
I expected to see the birds
Lined up in neat rows across the yard
With a conductor bird in the middle
Making sure everyone was following his beat.
Sort of like our school band,
Except we're not so great at keeping the beat.
But i was incorrect.
No conductor bird.
I couldn't even see any birds.
Just dark grass, seeing as it was 4:56 AM.
But I could hear them.

The thing that fascinates me
Is how they can remember the exact same notes
They sing
And repeat them
Until they get tired of them
And then they vary them
Into some other glorious tune.
And, heck, they switch up their time signatures
3/4, 6/8, 4/4
And their tempo
Allegro to a gentle largo
With little staccato chirps and nice full tweets
And the thrum of the insects in the background
Like a talented bass.
Keeping the rhythm,
But staying low profile,
Because it's the birds' time to shine.
And they've only begun to shine.

Since it was 4:56 AM,
I went back to sleep,
Drifting into unconsciousness
With birdsong.
I fell asleep again,
And woke up tired,
But it was worth it.
Cause i heard the birds.

what magnificent things you find when you do a google search on cardboard. lovely asian man in front of a cardboard bridge, for example.

"ugh, i hate cardboard. is this cardboard?"
"nah, olivia. i think it's just thick paper."
"oh."
"well, if you don't like cardboard paper, do you like cardboard boxes?"
"YES. i love cardboard boxes. except for the time when i hurt my ear."
"your ear?"
"yeah. me and my dad were racing with boxes and he crashed into my ear. then i had to sit on the couch and play mario kart with an ice pack over it. do you have a wii?"
"nope. my brother wants one, though."
"well i have one, and they are, like, 145,000 dollars, no, actually... 100,000."
"wow. i could never afford one of those."
"i did because i have one. i would know how much they cost, i bought one."
yeah, there are a few good things about school.
and by the way, i drew a picture of martha stewart yesterday.
